I don't have OCD; I'm just a little... we'll call it "persnickety". It's mostly about organization, not cleanliness. And it's never interfered with my life, that I'm aware.
Some of my idiosyncrasies:
- My books, CDs, DVDs and VHS are all organized in various ways that I feel are most appropriate:
* Fancy hardcover books are sorted by author, then title.
* Textbooks are sorted by subject, then difficulty (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, grad school).
* Paperbacks are sorted alphabetically by author, then by title, with the exception of Clive Cussler, which are sorted chronologically because that's how I am reading them.
* Craft books are sorted by craft (knitting, crochet, etc - books that contain both knitting and crochet go with the knitting books as that is my preferred craft), then by type of project (garments, afghans, baby stuff, design, etc). Separate from these but still in the same bookcase are my crafts booklets and magazines (each sorted by craft, then alphabetically by title, then chronologically for the magazines).
* Cookbooks are sorted by size because I don't have very many, so finding the one for which I am searching is never an issue. There are so few they actually fit on top of the refrigerator.
* CDs are sorted alphabetically by artist, then chronologically by album.
* DVDs are separated into films and television shows, then ordered alphabetically.
* VHS are alphabetical.
- I avoid cracks and seams in sidewalks. If they are unavoidable, I can step on them, as long as I step on the same number of cracks with each foot, you know, to keep things balanced out.
- A lot of things I do are in sets of four. Perhaps this goes back to my days in junior high orchestra, where almost everything we played had four beats per measure.
- I frequently question whether I locked the car or turned off the oven, often resulting in going back to double check.
- I have been known to straighten the merchandise in stores (where I don't work) or fix library books that were reshelved incorrectly.
- I am habitually punctual; I actually prefer being 10-15 minutes early to being right on time.
- After using the oven, I always turn all the knobs the same direction, even though the temperature knob is indepedent of the off/bake/broil knob and could be left on 350 degrees (the temperature I use most often) if I chose to do so.
- Our bathroom opens to both the bedroom and the hallway, and I must exit through the same door I entered, even if I'm about to go into the other room immediately thereafter.
Perhaps my perfectionism is why I like knitting so much - a lot of counting and repetition. I have often been praised for my even stitches that look machine-made. Whenever a pattern tells me to work to a certain measurement, I would rather count how many rows that is, so I can replicate it exactly on the back of the sweater, second sock, etc.
Feel free to browse my website for lots of free knitting patterns, and some for sale:

And check out the stuff I make and DON'T selfishly keep for myself (at the moment, it's just my for-sale knitting patterns):
